I know some people have trouble with a large amount of data, thats why they get frustrated and give bad feed back. its mostly because they are too lazy to figure it out. I use big commerce and have no issues with editing my HTML. I create my own movable block panels from scratch and BC runs it with no problem. BC has quickbooks integration. eBay links right up as well with out any issues.

Pros:
Flexibility – you can hire programmers and engineers and build a customized store that can fit any special needs.

or

you can watch the videos they have on there help site and do it yourself. its very easy to do. There are some more difficult task that you may want to do, but its not hard to learn. You do not need a programmer, just some basic html knowledge.

Cons:
Can cost more initially.
Not easy to maintain as you will need a team of IT staff.

You do not need to hire an IT team. If you have any issues, just call tech support and they will walk you through the whole process. I have had to call in a few times and every time I get a person that I can understand and that is very helpful.

I do not work for BC or get paid by them. I am just a user. I am just a regular Joomla power user that stumbled across BC and love it.

but I could be wrong too. you may find Big Commerce to be very complicated and hard to use. if so I dont recommend you give it a bad review. Just come out and say that you its your fault that you cant figure it out.

(fixed/edited)
I've used Glowhost for 3-4 years - and though they cost about 20% more than some places - I have had no issues, and no downtime (unlike bigbluehost - ugh), and yes, customer service is lightning fast (ticket system)...
Was looking around for cheaper, but after reading the horror stories, I'll keep paying my $75/month for VPS 1GB(see their packages) [price is current as of 2/2012].

Please do not use APTHOST
The errors and downtime are bad but worst ever was the server migration

They warned customers that a server migration was to take place but will not effect customers.

Now i ran a school website for local school
Next day i get hundreds of angry calls from parents, every website i owned on one server had hardcore porn on it, including the childrens website.
I contacted Apthost they said they made a dns error during propagation and resolved it within 24 hours.
I lost the contract for the school, i got punnished on all sites by searchengines and narrowly avoided prosecution.
They would not even apologise for this massive error.

So what did they do?
They then start telling me my useage is too high so cut me off?
I only get 700 visitors max a day, infact the weather site had twice that alone earlier in the year during the snow.
The staff do not have a brain cell between them, they are incompetent and arrogant. I moved to Godaddy hosting, im really not worried about who i host with as nothing can be as bad as APTHOST. I was with them when i first heard horror stories about them, so decided to stay. Big Mistake i should have left straight away. IF you are with them move now, as its a nightmare to leave later trust me.
APTHOST need to be put into administration and i would not like anyone to lose all their work when it happens
So if your with APTHOST get out now, if you were thinking of hosting with APTHOST don't.

Comment on HostPapa with Papa Problems? by imillard

In my opinion - and that of many others - HostPapa not only sucks, but they are cheats, liars & thieves.

In direct contradiction of ICANN regulations, they will list themselves at the domain name administrative contact. Essentially, they are taking control of your name, and will do everything they can to prevent you transferring it away - unless you pay their fees.

ICANN does NOT allow a "losing" registrar to extort money to release a domain name for transfer.

If you want to complain about registry problems, send a copy of your message to the "real" registrar, TuCows.
Start with Paul Karkas" pkarkas@tucows.com
and ombudsman@icann.org
then move on to disputes@opensrs.net and
compliance@opensrs.org

Send a polite and carefully worded message outlining your complaint, and you will get action.

My advice, based on my experience is: stay away from HostPapa.

I'm a highly competent server admin who helped a friend with a website at Hosting24.com. I've 8 years of experience managing servers dealing with small and large infrastructures.

The site was down most of the time, and was indeed down for more than 99.9% of the time (Pingdom logging showed a 90% uptime for only a week atm). My team and I debugged the issue because Hosting24 provided SSH and pin pointed the problem for Hosting24, provided the data in the ticket and how to resolve it, a week later they have yet to solve it, the site/server still goes down sporadically. Because the site is constantly up and down, apparently when their support checks the site, it's up so they don't do anything else other than to provide a template reply saying: "Do you still get this problem? Because I have just checked your website and it works fine.". These people who work a hosting24 are idiots! As a professional I'm ashamed people with little competence works for such a company and ruin the trust of the industry's customers.

Dotster really doesn't care about their customers. I had a vps with them since 2006 that I used for hosting websites. I had over 100 sites using databases, scripts ssi etc.
They sent me an email saying they were decommissioning the box I was on and I had to move my content. When I called to ask if they would move it they said they don't provide that service for vps's. They then shut off the box and I was cooked.

Everything is good, except I violated the user agreement and they cancelled my account. It turns out that you cannot use your site to store your backups, for example. Email from their legal department: "Hosting space ... is limited to Web files, e-mail and content of the hosted Web sites, not for storage of media and other data." I used it to store my backups. My account is cancelled and now I'm using a different backup solution. So keep that in mind. You are allowed to store only the content of your website and your emails.

Many customers prefer to suffer the awful uptime and slow page-load at a bad host because they are too afraid the transfer process to another host will go bad. If you need to <strong>move all your websites and domains</strong> to another host, try the <a href="http://go.azhan.com/hostgator-transfer.php?a=htsH24b" title="Click here to get help from Hostgator" rel="nofollow">free transfer service at Hostgator</a>. If an expert can do it for you for free, do you still have an excuse to stay with a terrible service?
